CHICAGO — Charges are pending against a man who was driving the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive Friday morning, sending himself and three others to the hospital after crashing head-on into a taxi.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, police said.

Around 1:50 a.m., the man was driving his Subaru southbound in the northbound lanes of of the drive near Randolph Street when he struck a cab carrying two passengers, a 27-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, police said.

Both passengers were taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The wrong-way driver and the cab driver, whose ages were not immediately available, were both taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Sullivan said.
