CHICAGO — A Streeterville man became the sixth person charged in connection to the murder of 14-year-old Endia Martin.

Floyd Evans, of the 200 block of East Ohio Street in Streeterville, is accused of illegally obtaining the gun used in the Monday morning shooting in Back of the Yards and is due in bond court Friday, police said.

Early in the investigation, police said the gun had been stolen. But police eventually arrested Robert James, 34, for illegally selling the gun in November 2013 and then filing a false police report claiming it was stolen.

Floyd, 43, was the man who bought the gun from James, police said. The gun ended up in the hands of Donnell Flora, who brought the loaded gun to the scene of the shooting at the request of his 14-year-old niece.

Flora was with his niece "knowing she was going to become involved in a physical fight with the victim," Jamie Santini, an assistant state's attorney, said in court Wednesday.

His niece, whose name is being withheld because she is a juvenile, was charged with the first-degree murder of Endia, a freshman cheerleader at Tilden Career Community Academy. Flora also was charged with first-degree murder.

On Thursday, both James and Vandetta Redwood, the alleged shooter's 32-year-old aunt, were in court after being charged in connection with the case. Redwood was with the shooter during the incident and faces felony obstruction of justice and mob action charges.

A sixth person, a 17-year-old boy being charged as a juvenile, was arrested for his role in trying to hide the gun.

Evans was charged with possessing a firearm without a valid identification card and failing to report to his probation officer.
