LAKEVIEW — Chicago Public Schools' new construction budget includes several upgrades to Lakeview schools, including air-conditioning for two elementary schools, a new turf field and a new science lab.

A total of $1.9 million has been budgeted for improvements at Agassiz Elementary, Nettelhorst Elementary and Inter-American Elementary.

With a budget of $290,000, existing classrooms at Agassiz Elementary, 2851 N. Seminary Ave, will be outfitted with new science lab equipment as part an effort to support a new International Baccalaureate program, according to CPS.

The funds will also go toward making the school more accessible by American Disability Act standards. Construction is expected to start in July and finish by September.

Nettelhorst, 3252 N. Broadway, and Inter-American, 851 W. Waveland Ave., are expected to have air conditioning units in all the classrooms by the beginning of the next school year, at a value of $490,000 each.

And Inter-American will finally get new artificial turf, after a long push by some parents. The $624,288 project, paid for by CPS and outside resources, is expected to be completed by September.
