CHICAGO — Two people were shot, one fatally, inside a kitchen in a Back of the Yards apartment Saturday, police said.
About 1:15 a.m., a 21-year-old man was killed and a 19-year-old woman injured in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
Police said a gunman opened fire into the kitchen from outside the apartment. The 19-year-old woman was shot in her left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where her condition stabilized, Alfaro said.
The 21-year-old man was shot in his chest and died on the scene. He was identified as Martavian Emery, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of early Saturday morning, police said.
