CHICAGO — A fatal car crash in Humboldt Park took the life of a man and hospitalized an infant and two women Friday night after shots were fired from the vehicle, police said.

Police saw someone in the car fire several shots in the 2500 block of West Division Street around 9:45 p.m., said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.

Officers attempted to curb the vehicle but the driver attempted to flee the scene heading eastbound. The white PT Cruiser crashed head-on into a light pole at 1611 W. Grand Ave. A gun was also recovered from the scene, said Sedevic.

A man, two women and a 9-month-old child were in the car during the collision and all four were hospitalized. A 26-year-old and a 23-year-old woman are in serious condition at Stroger Hospital. The infant was taken to Children's memorial Hospital for "observational reasons," said Sedevic.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Rigoberto Llera, 26, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 10:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
