UPTOWN — A high-end row home development in a popular part of Uptown is not even finished yet, but it's already nearly sold out.
Only three of 23 Back Yard Andersonville row homes are left in a part of Uptown that's close to Andersonville, Ravenswood and Lincoln Square.
The development at 4832 N. Clark St. sits on a parcel of land where the famous Rainbo Roller Rink resided before it was demolished in the early 2000s.
It features two-bedroom homes with one or two bathrooms and office space, and three-bedroom homes with two or two and a half bathrooms as well as a media room and home office space. The homes, priced from $429,000 to $629,900, range from 1,605 to 2,280 square feet.
Many of the buyers so far have been Andersonville residents who want to stay nearby and hopped on the opportunity "to buy something new" in a neighborhood where there isn't much new construction in terms of homes and condos, according to Realtor Heather Gustafson, president of CMK Realty.
Other buyers were attracted to the area for its proximity to music venues in Uptown, the independent businesses in Andersonville and Lincoln Square as well as the row homes' closeness to nearby Ravenswood, where a new Mariano's grocery store is opening.
The modern two- and three-bedroom homes, designed with an art deco-meets-industrial aesthetic, all have two levels, and feature open floor plans, heated concrete floors, Italian cabinetry, stone countertops, kitchen islands, white oak stairs, floor to ceiling windows, yard space and attached garages.
The project broke ground in the summer of 2013, and while a handful of homes won't be ready for occupancy until October, buyers have recently started moving in. The remaining homes have two and three bedrooms and are priced from $464,900 to $519,900.
Project manager Brad Edwards said there are people checking out the homes every day.
"It seems to be a very hot area that people are really gravitating toward," Edwards said, adding that the "high-end finishes," certainly help.
