EDGEWATER — The secretive, members-only Saddle and Cycle Club wants to fence off the vacant Sheridan Road lot it bought in October and uses as a parking lot, according to the alderman's office.
But it'll need a zoning variance to build the 8-foot-tall wooden fence, said Dan Luna, chief of staff for Ald. Harry Osterman. All zoning variances must be approved by the city's Zoning Board of Appeals.
The grassy land — previously owned by Dominick's Finer Foods LLC, which had a store directly south at Sheridan Road and Foster Avenue — had been for sale for about five years and was bought from the grocer in October for $3.95 million, according to property records.
The club approached the alderman's office, Luna said, to float the idea of adding fences and shrubbery to the property's Sheridan Road border, at 5231-41 N. Sheridan Road.
Luna said a public meeting would be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the club, 900 W. Foster Ave., to gather input from residents about the plan.
Club officials, who didn't respond to a request for comment, would also be at the meeting to present the plans, Luna said.
