RIVER NORTH — The people have spoken — and they're really into Sandra Bullock this year.
Two of the Oscar-winning actress's flicks, "The Blind Side" and this year's "Gravity," were chosen in a survey of nearly 400 River North residents to be screened in A. Montgomery Ward Park in the Movies in the Park 2014 series this summer, sponsored by the River North Residents Association.
The association partners with the Chicago Park District to organize two free movie screenings a month in A. Montgomery Ward Park at 630 N. Kingsbury St. for a total of six summer screenings on the association's dime.
In addition to the flicks starring Bullock, this summer's lineup will include "As Good as it Gets," "Chicago" and the family-friendly "The Lego Movie." "Captain Phillips" starring Tom Hanks was chosen in a close race that came down to six votes, according to the association.
The movies will be screened for free throughout the summer at the park, starting at sunset. Free popcorn will be made onsite, and guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner. Alcohol and dogs are not allowed in the park.
The bi-monthly series will kick of June 17.
