Eight Shot on South, West Sides Overnight

CHICAGO — Chicago Police said shootings around the city wounded eight people, include four teens, since Friday night.

The latest shooting occurred at 5:05 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of East 72nd Street, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

A 19-year-old man was shot in his upper left thigh. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition stabilized, Sweeney said.

At 4:23 p.m., a 13-year-old boy was shot in the Washington Park neighborhood. The teen was shot in the 6100 block of South Indiana Avenue, Sweeney said, citing preliminary information.

The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg, and his condition stabilized, police said.

About 7:30 a.m., a man was shot in the 3500 block of West Hirsch Street in Humboldt Park, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.

A man was shot in his leg and taken to Stroger in an unknown condition.

In other shootings:

• Near the border of the Hermosa and Logan Square neighborhoods, a 16-year-old boy riding in a car was shot in his left calf at about 4:50 a.m., Sedevic said

The car was traveling in the 4000 block of West Fullerton Avenue when another car pulled alongside. A person in that car flashed gang signs before firing shots.

The boy was taken to Our Lady of Resurrection Hospital where he is in good condition.

• In Englewood, a 17-year-old boy was shot in his leg the 6800 block of South Throop Street at about 4 a.m., Sedevic said.

He knocked on a window of a home believed to have been his girlfriend's, when someone shot at him from inside.

He is in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

• Also in Englewood, two men were shot in the 5600 block of South Normal Boulevard about 2 a.m., Sedevic said. 

Both men were on a porch when shots were fired from an unknown red car that drove by. The victims went into the home before both being taken to Stroger.

A 21-year-old man took a bullet to his head and is in serious condition. A 39-year-old man was shot in his buttocks and is stable.

• In Avalon Park, a 19-year-old man was walking to his car in the 8500 block of South East End Avenue with his brother when he was shot in his hand about 12:45 a.m., Sedevic said. The victim said the siblings heard shots before he felt the pain. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital where he is in good condition.

During the day Friday, six people were wounded in shootings, including two in Rogers Park, and a 20-year-old man killed in Washington Park.
