CHICAGO — A 20-year-old man was shot after he answered his door Thursday night, police said.

The man told police he opened his door in the 8800 block of South Prairie Avenue in West Chesterfield after hearing a knock at the the door about 9:45 p.m. Someone then fired several shots into the house, hitting the man in his groin, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition, Alfaro said.
