LINCOLN PARK — Chicago Fire soccer star Chris Rolfe loves posting photos of his dog, Nashville, on Facebook.
Much of Rolfe's free time is spent hanging out with the two-year-old, 65-pound golden retriever mix in his Lincoln Park townhouse steps from Oz Park.
But Rolfe has to find a new home for the dog, which he rescued from the no-kill Animal House Shelter in Huntley, during the 2013 preseason.
"He's an athlete like me," Rolfe said of the dog last March. "He was a stray and a lot skinnier [when I adopted him]."
Rolfe on Tuesday used a Facebook post to plead for help to locate a new owner.
"Hey everyone, I am looking for a new home for my dog, Nash. He's been an awesome dog for me, I'm just unable to keep him any longer," Rolfe wrote on Facebook. "If you have any interest or know someone who might, please message me!"
According to Rolfe, Nashville "loves cats, dogs, kids and loves to cuddle. He'll sleep all day if he's touching you. He doesn't bark unless he gets spooked. ... He still has some puppy energy, but he's healthy and up to date on his vaccines."
He did not say why Nashville needed a new home.
Rolfe last year said he was a dog walking volunteer at PAWS Chicago in Lincoln Park. He also has a cat named Leroy, which he found as a stray kitten when he was a professional player in Denmark.
"I despise cats, but this thing won me over in Denmark," Rolfe said last year.
Rolfe started 26 of the team's 31 games last year, notching four goals. The forward, who's in his eighth season with the Fire, has scored 48 goals for the franchise. The Fire, who tied New York 1-1 in March 23's season opener, next play at D.C. United on Saturday.
