ANDERSONVILLE — The La Baguette Bakery near the northern end of Andersonville has closed.

Pastry cases and shelves are bare inside the bakery at 5712 N. Clark St., and handwritten signs on the doors read "Sorry we are closed."

Equipment and furniture can still be seen inside, but there are no people, and no delectable smells.

The owners of the business were unreachable for comment this week, and employees at La Baguette locations in Albany Park and Logan Square weren't able to provide any information about the closing. It's unclear if the closure is temporary or permanent.

The bakery had been a popular destination for wedding and birthday cakes, and also sold traditional Mexican sweets and breads in addition to an array of pastries and other treats.
