CHICAGO — Two rappers charged in the February murder of a Chicago livery driver shot the man down after asking him if he was from the neighborhood, according to authorities and prosecutors.

Courtney Ealy, 19, was charged with murder in the February shooting death of Javan Boyd, a 28-year-old livery driver gunned down on the job in Armour Square, police said.

Ealy, also known as rapper Cdai, was taken into custody Monday night in suburban Northfield, according to a police report.

Also arrested in the case was 17-year-old Clint Massey, known as rapper RondoNumbaNine, who was charged with murder earlier this month.

Prosecutors said that Boyd was in his car waiting for a fare in the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue — not far from U.S. Cellular Field — when a number of cars rolled by.

Ealy and Massey, in the lead car, pulled a U-turn and came to a stop in front of Boyd, prosecutors said. They asked Boyd if he was from the area.

When Boyd said he was, both fired guns into the car and then fled.

Authorities have said that the shooting may have been retaliation for a fight.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas set Ealy's bail at $1 million, but he will be held without bail until at least Friday when he is scheduled to go before a judge for violating a 2012 robbery conviction.

Massey, of the 6600 block of South Honore Street, is being held on $2 million bail.

Boyd's family said he was working a second job as a livery driver to support his 11-year-old daughter. While Boyd had been in trouble before — in 2007 he was arrested and pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking — his family said Boyd since tried to stay out of trouble so he could take care of her.
