LOGAN SQUARE — The new Logan Arcade will host a tournament next weekend to help a pinball legend in need.

Python Anghelo, famed designer of popular pinball machines and video games such as PinBot, Bride of PinBot and others, is struggling with medical bills after being diagnosed with cancer a few years back.

First a few friends in the pinball community launched a GoFundMe campaign to help him out with some of the costs, and now Logan Square's own connection to the pinball community, the new Logan Arcade owned by Jim Zespy, is pitching in with a pinball tournament March 23.

The tournament is $20 to enter and all quarters fed into the machines will benefit Anghelo as well.

Reached by phone Thursday evening, Anghelo said he's grateful for the help.

"It's really been helping me out with my medical bills," he said. "The hospital bills, I don't have them yet, but I'm scared of them. Also I have caregivers at home that have been doing a great job, but they cost me over $1,000 a week."

The 60-year-old Uptown resident was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer three years ago, and has been getting regular chemo and radiation therapy since. Much of his treatments are not covered by insurance and the bills pile up quickly.

"Zespy is doing a great thing," Anghelo said. "I love him. He's a great guy."
