LAKEVIEW — Four college students were robbed by a man in Lakeview early Tuesday after he asked them "have you guys ever been shot?", police said.

The four men in their 20s walked past the offender around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday on Mildred Avenue at George Street, said community policing officer Kelly Sims.

The man then turned around and said "have you guys ever been shot?" and opened his jacket, implying he had a gun in his pocket, Sims said. He asked them to drop their wallets but did not fully display a gun, she said.

The college students gave the man their wallets. It is categorized as an armed robbery due to the threat of a firearm, Sims said.

It was the first robbery in beat 1933, bordered by Belmont, Diversey, Lincoln and Halsted, in the past month, Sims said.
