COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man killed his girlfriend's cat after she refused to give him money to buy crack cocaine, prosecutors alleged in court Tuesday.

The East Garfield Park man was visiting his girlfriend in the 6300 block of South Racine Avenue early Tuesday morning when the two started fighting.

Orlando Manning, 24, wanted $5 to buy crack, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said. The girlfriend refused to give him any money.

Manning hit the woman and then grabbed her cat, choked it and beat it, Antonietti said.

Manning was ordered held on $250,000 bond Tuesday on charges of aggravated animal cruelty. He is also charged with domestic battery for beating the same woman on Feb. 21.
