AVONDALE — This weekend, Yusho will host its second Ramen Battle, and this bout will feature two of Logan Square's most celebrated chefs.

Lula Cafe's Jason Hammel and Fat Rice's Abraham Conlon will go head to head Sunday in a contest to create the best ramen and serve it up to Yusho's guests.

"We invite two guest chefs to each come in prepared to make a ramen of their own kind of design," said Yusho assistant manager Ryan Kraemer. "The ramens go out and then at the end the guests get a scoring card and rate it from 1 to 5."

Those ratings are then averaged out to determine a winner, who gets a special prize, which in the case of the first Ramen Battle last month was a one-of-a-kind poster made for the event.

That inaugural Ramen Battle featured The Publican's Cosmo Goss and Blackbird's David Posey, who made ramen that included ingredients like thai sausage, eggs, and burnt leeks.

Though Goss' creation ultimately came out on top, it's not really about that, Kraemer said.

"It's pretty casual," he said. "All in good fun."

This Sunday's event is $35 a person and includes the ramen, a drink and a dessert, and other snacks will also be for available for purchase.

Though all the spots have already been snapped up, Kraemer said folks who get on the waiting list will have a good shot of getting in, and walk-ins will also be accepted in the event of cancellations.

There will also be plenty of bar seating available, he said.

"If people want to come in and see what's going on we're not going to turn them away," he said.
