CHICAGO — A woman was stabbed early Friday in Wicker Park, police said.

Around 2:20 a.m., a woman in her 20s was walking with a man in the 1500 block of North Damen Avenue after leaving a club when a van pulled up beside them, police said. A man and a woman got out of the van and began arguing with the other couple, said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

During the argument, the man from the van yelled gang slogans and a physical fight began, Greer said. During the fight, the woman in her 20s was stabbed in her torso and back, Greer said.

Then the other man and woman got back into their van and drove off, Greer said.

The woman who was stabbed was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in stable condition, then transferred to Stroger Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The man who was with her refused medical attention, Greer said.

"It is never good news when things like this happen in our neighborhood," said Ulysses Salmanaca, owner of Flash Taco, who was nearby when the incident occurred. "You are concerned for the safety of your customers and the neighborhood."
