MCKINLEY PARK — The pharmacy inside the Mariano's Fresh Market store is open for business and accepting new customers.

A company spokesman did not offer an opening date for the new grocery store, 3145 S. Ashland Ave., but an employee there said it could debut in early April.

The Mariano's pharmacy has already been filling prescriptions for customers from the Dominick's store, which closed in December after it was sold by Safeway Inc.

The spokesman also said details of the store's features — the chain's new North Shore location, for instance, has a gourmet coffee shop and smoothie bar — wouldn't be revealed until a day before the store opens.

The pharmacy is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
