CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was found dead of gunshot wounds in a South Austin stairwell Thursday night, police said.
Around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, officers found the 23-year-old man in a stairwell first block of South Mason Avenue with gunshot wounds in his chest, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
The man, of the 1500 block of South Harding in North Lawndale, was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:51 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was identified as Regimond Maxwell, Jr.
No one was in custody for the shooting, Alfaro said.
