CHICAGO — Two police officers were injured while responding to an emergency call Sunday night in East Garfield Park.

Around 11:50 p.m. Sunday, officers responding to a call of shots fired were heading northbound in the first block of Kedzie Avenue when a red sedan ran a red light and collided with their car, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The two officers were taken to area hospitals in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, Alfaro said.

The man driving the sedan attempted to flee the scene of the crash but was apprehended.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident and charges are pending, Alfaro said.
