RIVER NORTH — Firecakes Donuts is celebrating its first anniversary by stealing a page from Willy Wonka's playbook.
The River North bakery, 68 W. Hubbard St., is tucking tickets into each box of doughnuts bought Feb. 21-28 (minimum half-dozen). Three of those tickets will be golden, earning the lucky winners one dozen free doughnuts each month for a year.
If you don't walk away with the gold, hang on to your ticket: It's good for a free old-fashioned doughnut with any purchase, which is a way better consolation prize than being turned into a giant blueberry.
