CHICAGO — A man died in a fire in Austin Thursday evening, officials said.

Albert Lawson Jr., 64, was a resident of a multi-unit building in the 500 block of South Lavergne Avenue that caught fire, officials said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 5:25 p.m., said Chief Joe Roccasalva. It was struck out at 5:44.

Roccasalva said the Lawson disabled. The fire was confined to one room of the two-story apartment building; smoke detectors the room were working, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Roccasalva said.

An autopsy conducted Friday determined Lawson died from injuries suffered in an apartment fire caused by a space heater.
