BRIDGEPORT — The gunman in a shooting that left a man paralyzed has been sentenced to 35 years in prison, authorities said.

Nikolas Gacho, 21, shot his girlfriend's lover in the back as the pair walked home from a June 2010 party in the 3200 block of South Parnell Avenue, prosecutors said.

The shooting, described by prosecutors as an "ambush," left the 19-year-old victim permanently paralyzed.

Authorities said Gacho, of Burbank, was identified by the victim in a photo lineup and later arrested.

Court records show Gacho posted bail and was arrested again in November 2012 on an unlawful possession of a weapon charge, which landed him back in jail.

At a hearing this week, Cook County Judge William Lacy sentenced Gacho to 35 years behind bars.
