LOGAN SQUARE — One person died and seven others were sent to hospitals in critical condition after a two-car crash in Logan Square Monday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred near Fullerton and Kimball avenues at about 5:30 a.m., said Chief Juan Hernandez, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

Police said a Mazda sedan was southbound on Kimball Avenue when it failed to stop at a red light and struck a Buick sedan going westbound on Fullerton. The cars then hit a building on the corner of Kimball and Fullerton avenues.

The driver of the Mazda, 27-year-old Omar Daville, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in "very critical condition," authorities said.

Daville, of the 2200 block of North Lorel Avenue, was pronounced dead there at 6:21 a.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver of the Buick was taken to Stroger Hospital in "critical but stable condition," police said.

Six other adults riding in the Mazda were also hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two were sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Two were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. One was taken to Stroger Hospital, and one was taken to Illinois Masonic, authorities said.

The Chicago Police Department's major accidents division is investigating.
