COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A woman being carjacked in Portage Park Saturday night apparently helped thwart the crime when she closed her garage door while the thief was still inside, according to a police arrest report.

Andre Bacon, 21, of the 11300 block of South Harvard Avenue in Roseland, was charged with attempted carjacking and theft.

Bacon went up to the victim, a 36-year-old woman, while she was in her garage in the 3300 block of North Long Avenue and repeatedly demanded her car keys, according to the report.

She handed the keys over, according to the report, but then closed the garage door before running away and calling police.

When officers arrived, they walked into the garage and saw Bacon still sitting inside the woman's 2012 Acura MDX with her key in the ignition, according to the report.

Bacon was arrested about 7:30 p.m.

Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered Bacon held on a $75,000 bail on Sunday.
