AUSTIN — One man was hospitalized after he was shot Monday night in South Austin, police said.

About 9:10 p.m. Monday, the 29-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Lockwood Avenue when a gunman got out of a white van and opened fire, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was hit in the right side of his back and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday, but police believe the incident was gang-related.
