ANDERSONVILLE — The Ann Sather restaurant that closed in Andersonville at the end of 2013 will become a Giordano's restaurant later this year, according to the real estate and investment firm that owns the property.
Ann Sather owner Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) announced in August he had sold the building housing his Swedish-inspired breakfast and brunch chain's Andersonville location to Newcastle Limited.
Ann Sather closed in late December.
Newcastle CEO Robert R. Haney confirmed Wednesday that the Chicago area's 42nd Giordano's pizzeria will next occupy the space at 5207 N. Clark St., but didn't name an opening date for the restaurant.
"New Castle is pleased to see another successful chain business expand into the Andersonville market," Haney said in a statement.
Giordano's did not return calls for comment.
The famous pizzeria chain told the Chicago Tribune earlier this week that Andersonville would get one of the five new Giordano's restaurants planned by the company this year.
The other Giordano's locations planned for this year are in the northern suburbs, according to the Tribune.
A Giordano's location that opened in the South Loop Monday was the franchise's first new location since emerging from bankruptcy in 2011.
