AUSTIN — An 18-year-old man was hospitalized after he was shot on the West Side late Monday night.

The teen was in a vehicle in the 100 block of North Mason Avenue when he was approached by two men just before midnight, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The two men tried opening the vehicle's doors to get inside, and the 18-year-old began driving away to escape. The men opened fire, hitting the teen in his upper right arm.

The teen drove himself to Loretto Hospital, where he is listed in good condition, police said.
