EDGEWATER — Loyola University warned its students that "shots were fired" near the intersection of Rosemont Avenue and North Broadway on Wednesday, less than a mile from the school's lake shore campus.

"At this time, no one is believed to have been injured and the Chicago Police Department is investigating," said Loyola Police Chief Thomas Murray in a statement.

No suspects were in custody, he said.

Murray said shots were fired about 5:45 p.m., possibly from a vehicle, but no description of the shooters were available.

Murray encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call 911.

The reported shooting occurred several blocks north of a fatal shooting outside of North Broadway's Lickity Split Custard Shop last month.
