WRIGLEYVILLE — The Wrigleyville location of Penny's Noodle Shop will serve its last pad thai on Sunday.

The local pan-Asian chain opened at 3400 N. Sheffield Ave. 23 years ago, said manager Leo Chabz. Now, the building owner wants to renovate, meaning Penny's must leave.

"We don't know how long it's going to take," Chabz said. "It's not just Penny's. There's a lot to do."

Chabz said it's unknown whether Penny's will return to its home at Sheffield and Roscoe. It all depends on the cost of the lease after renovations, he said.

"If the rent goes high, we don't know if we'll be able to afford [it]," Chabz said.

Until then, Penny's will look for other potential spots to open in Wrigleyville, he said.

Penny's Noodle Shop also has locations on the Lakeview and Lincoln Park border, 950 W. Diversey, in Wicker Park, 1542 N. Damen Ave., and in suburban Oak Park and Northfield.

"It's been nice," Chabz said of Penny's time in Wrigleyville. "It's always nice."
