BRIDGEPORT — Think you know the neighborhood?

Prove it and earn a year's worth of local bragging rights at the Bridgeport News Quiz.

The fifth annual quiz takes place at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Bernice's Tavern, 3238 S. Halsted St.

"The first year we had four teams of readers, and an impromptu entry of folks at the bar. The following year [Bridgeport resident] Chuck Sudo's Chicagoist team almost took the bronze. New people have joined every year, and are very welcome," Tom Kotarac and John R. Daley, son of Cook County Commissioner John Daley, said in a statement.

The pair are contributors to the B News blog that hosts the news quiz.

Teams of five or more will answer a series of questions about neighborhood trivia. Here's a sample question from a previous year:

Former White Sox pitcher Billy Pierce was quoted in a New York Times story about one of Bill Veeck's interesting habits. Pierce said, "I loved the guy,.....But you'd be out with him at dinner and he'd be smoking a cigarette and dropping the ashes into _______. I mean, it was a bit disconcerting."

Fill in the blank describing where Bill Veeck would ash his cigarettes.

(The answer? "His peg leg.")

The winners will have a chance to bring home some swag, but perhaps more important is the chance to claim victory in the ongoing wars of neighborhood knowledge.
