LAKEVIEW — An 80-year-old man is dead after being hit by a van in Lakeview Thursday morning, officials said.
The elderly man was hit near the intersection of North Ashland Avenue and West Wellington Avenue about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.
The man, who was later identified as Jamie Ramirez, of the 800 block of West Lill Street, ignored traffic signals and ran out into the street, officials said. He was struck by a 2006 Kia van heading northbound on Ashland Avenue.
The driver of the van told police he could not stop in time to avoid hitting Ramirez.
Ramirez was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead there at 8:38 p.m. Friday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Estrada said no traffic citations were issued to the driver in the accident.
