About 1:50 a.m., the man was in the 1900 block of North Spaulding Avenue when he was shot repeatedly in his chest, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

Responding officers found the man unresponsive on the sidewalk. He was taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m.

The victim was identified as Cayetano Sandoval, 68, of the 2000 block of North Spaulding Avenue, authorities and family said.
