CHICAGO — What's going on with that black helicopter flying low over Downtown and the West Loop?

Don't fret, it's just the "Divergent" helicopter, shooting scenes for the dystopian film set in Chicago.

The helicopter will be flying low over Downtown and the West Loop through Saturday morning.

Between 8 a.m. through 10 a.m. Friday, a helicopter will hover low over Harrison and Wells streets, according to city officials. Wells Street, between Harrison and Polk streets, will have brief closures.

Earlier Friday, a helicopter was scheduled to fly over Navy Pier. That's the scene of a important part of the "Divergent" tale, when the two lead characters climb on the Ferris wheel.

"Divergent," the first novel in a trilogy by Veronica Roth, is being made into a movie, with some of the film being shot in Chicago.

Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., a helicopter is slated to take shots of the Willis Tower and John Hancock Building from a high elevation. The lead characters, part of a crew of daring members of the futuristic society, pull an eye-popping stunt at the Hancock in the novel.

Between 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, a helicopter will fly low over 1200 W. Lake Street. The street may be closed briefly between Elizabeth and Aberdeen streets.

The film is based on Chicago author Veronica Roth's best-selling novel about a Chicago teen who doesn't fit into her heavily divided world. The movie stars Shailene Woodley ("The Descendants," "The Secret Life of an American Teenager"). It began filming some scenes at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios this spring and filmed various scenes in the city, including some on a set at Harrison and Wells streets.

It is due in American theaters March 21, 2014.
