LAKEVIEW — Alert to vegetarians and vegans: Lakeview's own renowned meat-free greasy spoon The Chicago Diner's second cookbook debuts this week.

The restaurant celebrated its 30th anniversary and an opening of a second location in Logan Square in the past year, and now, chef Jo Kaucher and her husband and co-owner Mickey Hornick are updating the cookbook, too.

Customers have been asking for another cookbook since the first one was released more than a decade ago, according Kaucher.

These days, vegetarianism and veganism is more mainstream, and better ingredients are more readily available to the home cook, Kaucher said. "The New Chicago Diner Cookbook" reflects more than 100 pages of updated options, from seitan-based entrees to "Raw Cheezecake" dessert.

It's available for preorder online and ships on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Those who preorder will receive an autographed copy with a bonus recipe pack.

And for those looking to see a cooking demo, the couple will be hosting a cookbook release party on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 3-6 p.m. at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St. Admission is free with an RSVP and includes a recipe tasting.

The Chicago Diner is located at 3411 N. Halsted St. and 2333 N. Milwaukee Ave.
