CHICAGO — Nine people were hospitalized Tuesday morning after three cars crashed in the Avalon Park neighborhood, authorities said.

The cars crashed in the 8200 block of South Stony Island Avenue about 8:30 a.m., said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

Two were taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said. Their ages and genders were not available.

Someone else was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Jackson Park Hospital, another was taken in fair-to-serious condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, and another was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Advocate Trinity hospital, Langford said. Someone else was taken in good condition to Jackson Park and three others were taken in good condition to Trinity, according to Langford.

More information about the crash and the victims was not immediately available, Sullivan said.
