CHICAGO — A police officer and two others were injured early Wednesday when a driver who was possibly drunk sideswiped a squad car during a police traffic stop in Englewood, police said.

The crash occurred about 12:45 a.m., according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman. Cops from the Gresham District had pulled over a car in the 7400 block of South Halsted Street for an  traffic stop.

While an officer was standing in the street, a dark SUV crashed into the stopped vehicles, sideswiping the passenger side of the squad car. Before stopping, the SUV struck one officer, as well as two men who had been in the original stopped car.

The SUV driver is currently in police custody. Cops said they believe the man was drunk, and charges are pending.

The officer suffered a knee injury, and was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center and released early Wednesday. The two men, whose ages were unavailable, were treated at Saint Bernard Hospital and released.
