EDGEWATER — Although the members-only Saddle and Cycle Club bought a long-vacant lot on Sheridan Road in October, its plans for the site that borders its campus are uncertain.

Multiple phone messages left for the club's management went unanswered in the past few weeks, but Dan Luna, the chief of staff for Ald. Harry Osterman (48th), said the club had no immediate plans to develop the property.

The grassy, empty land — owned by Dominick's Finer Foods LLC., which has a store directly north at Sheridan Road and Foster Avenue — had been for sale for about five years and was bought from the grocer in October for $3.95 million, according to property records.

The secretive club approached the alderman's office, Luna said, to float the idea of adding fences and shrubbery to the property's Sheridan Road border.

Luna said the club could use the property for additional green space for its adjacent Foster Avenue campus.

Another empty lot owned by Dominick's and located directly between the grocery store and Saddle and Cycle on Foster Avenue has yet to be sold, according to property records.
