EDGEWATER — Neighborhood art organization Pivot Arts plans to kick off its "Pop Up! Performances" series this week — with many more coming soon to Far North Side storefronts.
The new program aims to match musical artists and performers with businesses and empty storefronts throughout the Far North Side, said Pivot director Julieanne Ehre.
"It's great for residents to have artists performing right around the corner," she said.
So far, Ehre has booked two events with a $5 suggested donation.
Folk artist Angela James is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lickity Split, 6056 N. Broadway, in Pivot Arts' first "Pop Up! Performance."
Ehre and her colleagues also plan to take over Metropolis Coffee's roasting garage beginning 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at 5545 N. Clark St., for a performance from country band Lawrence Peters Outfit and opener Thomas Comerford.
Ehre, a 43-year-old theater director and producer, founded Pivot Arts about a year ago.
She encourages anyone to wander in to Lickity Split Tuesday for frozen custard and to enjoy the music.
"It's just a great business to patronize," she said. "... It'll be a great opportunity to meet people in your neighborhood."
