LAKEVIEW — Two restaurants in Lakeview long-hailed as offering some of the most authentic Thai food in the city made the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list for the first time.

TAC Quick, 3930 N. Sheridan Road, and ATK, or Andy's Thai Kitchen, 946 W. Wellington Ave., joined the foodie review guide's 2014 list of favorite restaurants at a good value.

The Bib Gourmand restaurants must offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less. Michelin inspectors eat at city restaurants anonymously before deciding if they make the list.

TAC Quick, a Sheridan "L" stop BYO stable for years, grew to fame for its "secret" Thai menu, with standouts like a spicy ground chicken with fried crispy basil leaves and fried preserved duck eggs.

Incidentally, the owner of ATK opened the restaurant after leaving TAC Quick. Chef Andy Aroonrasameruang took some similar authentic Thai flavors from TAC to ATK last fall after he and a business partner had a falling out, according to reports at the time.

From there, ATK has quickly become known as both a beloved neighborhood BYO and one of the best Thai restaurants in the city.

Several other Lakeview restaurants were already on the Bib Gourmand list. Chilam Balam, 3023 N. Broadway, and Wood, 3335 N. Halsted St., kept their spots in the guide.

Michelin Guide is a widely followed list of the best restaurants in the country. The guide for Chicago is available for $18.99.
