WEST ROGERS PARK — A man who was shot by the while trying to rob a Devon Avenue store was arrested hours later after he walked into an Indiana hospital seeking treatment for his wounds, police said.
Lawrence Bradley, 25, was later charged with a felony count of armed robbery and a felony count aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.
Police said Bradley, of the 15200 block of South Evers Avenue in south suburban Dolton, was arrested at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday at Franciscan St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond. Police did not immediately have information about where Bradley was shot but said he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
The arrest came after Bradley tried to rob a store in the 2900 block of West Devon Avenue about 5:39 p.m. Monday, police said.
There was a scuffle and shots were fired, injuring the man suspected in the robbery, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.
The robbery victim was also hurt and was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries, Sedevic said.
A man who identified himself as Robert Gabriel outside the closed shop Tuesday said that it was his cousin, Sargon Zaia, who owns the store, i-Shakk, that was hurt in the scuffle.
He said Zaia had some "lacerations" on his head and was now recovering at his suburban home.
It was unclear whether the store, which sells computers, cellphones and other electronics, would open for business Tuesday.
Bradley was released from the hospital and later charged. He is expected to appear in bond court Wednesday.
