LINCOLN PARK — A 26-year-old man has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence after smashing into another vehicle near DePaul University's campus early Sunday morning, police said.

Jose Lopez was driving a white Infiniti about 4 a.m. Sunday when he crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Fullerton and Sheffield avenues, according to a police report.

Lopez failed to stop at the red light, and both cars were "totaled" in the collision, according to the police report.

The driver and a passenger in the vehicle that was struck were both taken to an area hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, police said.

According to the police report, Lopez smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. He also refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Lopez held on $30,000 bail Monday.
