Lil Bub Visits Sue

MUSEUM CAMPUS — Internet sensation Lil Bub met a lot of Chicagoans during her recent visit, but only one stole her heart: the Field Museum's own Sue, a 14-foot Tyrannosaurus rex who lives in the main gallery.

Lil Bub got a special tour of the museum captured in a video released this week.

The video shows Lil Bub climbing the museum's expansive stone stairs and peering up at its Ionic columns.

"Hello Bub! Welcome to the world famous Field Museum," museum public relations manager Emily Waldren says in the video.

The tour took Lil Bub by case after case of taxidermied animals and highlighted its many cat specimens, including the Tsavo Lions, which Waldren says "fascinated" the feline.

But Lil Bub's pace quickened, and her purrs amplified, when Waldren carried her past Sue.

"She has a perfect body," claim captions in the video, which purport to be Bub's thoughts. "Look at those legs!"

The compliments riff on Sue's status as the "most perfect" T. rex skeleton ever discovered: the 67 million-year-old remains are "the largest, most complete, and best preserved," according to the museum.

"I think Bub, being one of the most famous cats in the world, must have felt drawn to Sue, one of the most famous dinosaurs in the world," Waldren said. "It's no wonder she fell in love at first sight!"

After her visit, Lil Bub debriefed the trip on her talk show, with an intro narrated by legendary Chicago broadcaster Bill Kurtis.

On the show, Lil Bub got a surprise visit from Sue via video chat.

Unfortunately, their love can't transcend their differences. Watch the video to see the story unfold.

The clip also promotes a fundraiser for Animal Talk Rescue, a Seattle-based animal shelter.
