UPTOWN — Both kids and adults have plenty of options on Thursday when it comes to celebrating Halloween in Uptown.

A rainy forecast won't scare the Buena Park Neighbors block club from its annual "Safe Trick or Treat," event Thursday evening. Kids and adults are scheduled to gather at Buena Circle Park, 1049 W. Buena, at 6 p.m. to kick off a trick-or-treating expedition through the area — regardless of the weather. The block club also plans to give out awards for the best costume and the best-decorated home.

Visit the Buena Park Neighbors website for more information.

Trick-or-treaters can drop by outside Shake Rattle and Read, 4812 N. Broadway, from 3-4 p.m. Thursday for free candy from Business Partners, the Chamber for Uptown. The chamber of commerce said it would have a table outside the venerable bookstore, and in addition to treats offer residents the chance to ask questions about the community and the chamber.

Contact the chamber for more information.

A couple of family-friendly Halloween-themed plays, "Professor Evil's Bedtime Stories for Zombies," and "Professor Evil vs. Nosferatu," will be performed by actors aged 8-12 at Chase Park, 4701 N. Ashland Ave., starting at 6 p.m.

The first play is about a professor who develops a method of forcing the undead to serve him, but races against the clock to perfect the process "before the brain munching hoards get out of control," according to the theater. In the second play, the king of vampires hears about Professor Evil's zombie control aspirations and launches an offensive against the mad scientist to thwart his "schmience," the theater said.

To purchase tickets or get more information about the plays, visit the Fury Theatre website.

Uptown Lounge, 1136 W. Lawrence Ave., is throwing a Halloween bash with live music from rockabilly, soul and rock acts, including Barbara Clifford & the Shakin' Tail Feathers, Them Guilty Aces, Coyote Riot and MG Bailey. There's also a costume contest at midnight, and the winner will take away a $100 award. The event starts at 8 p.m. and has a $5 cover charge.

Visit the Uptown Lounge website for more information.

Crew Bar and Grill, just across the street from the Uptown Lounge, is also getting in on the Halloween festivities with "Scary-oke," a Halloween-themed edition of the bar's weekly karaoke night that starts at 10 p.m. Crew staff will compete in a costume contest, and patrons can cast their vote for their favorite costumed staffer. Crew is also offered $3.50 beer pints and $3 "bloody brain shots," according to the Crew website.

Visit the Crew Bar and Grill website for more information.
