Man Charged with Skipping Out on $1,800 Bill at Luxury Hotel

COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Morgan Park man is accused of skipping out on an $1,800, one-night bill at a downtown luxury hotel, and and having fake credit cards on him when arrested by police.

Jerrell Palmer, 27, left the Sax Hotel at 333 N. Dearborn St. shortly after midnight Wednesday after refusing to pay an $1,800 bill, prosecutors said during his bond hearing.

Police caught up with him in a car a few blocks later in the 200 block of North LaSalle. When they ordered him to stop, Palmer allegedly tried to drive off, prosecutors said.

When he was searched, police found two credit cards in other people's names issued by SunTrust Bank and Wells Fargo.

Palmer, of the 11400 block of South May Street, told police he bought at least one of the credit cards on Facebook, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.

He is charged with theft for refusing to pay the hotel bill, resisting arrest for failing to heed the arresting officer's orders, both misdemeanors, and possessing an altered credit or debit card.

A Cook County judge ordered him held on $10,000 bond Thursday.
