WEST ROGERS PARK — Nine neighborhood playgrounds will get face-lifts by the end of 2014, officials say.

Ald. Debra Silverstein (50th) said the playgrounds — at Chippewa Park, Lerner Park, Rogers Park, Green Briar Park, Lunt Playlot Park, Indian Boundary Park and three at Warren Park — would get new equipment.

"Replacing these old playgrounds with new equipment will keep kids coming back to our parks and getting the exercise they need to grow up healthy and strong," said Silverstein in a statement.

Chicago Plays!, a program administered by Friends of the Parks, aims to renovate 50 of the city's 523 playgrounds this year. Within the next five years, it plans to renovate 300 playgrounds throughout the city.

In order to qualify for the program, a park to be renovated needed 50 signatures from area residents who would benefit from a new playground and a letter of support from the local alderman.
