AUSTIN — A man shot in the head in a West Side park this summer died Wednesday evening from his injuries, authorities said.

Keith Sutton, 24, was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at a hospice care center in Melrose Park, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Sutton was shot June 2 in the 5700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue in North Austin, authorities said.

Sutton was in Galewood Park about 10:15 a.m. when a gunman walked up to him and fired two shots, hitting Sutton once in the head and once in the body. The gunman then got into an SUV and fled. Sutton was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

On Aug. 21, police arrested Craig Bryan for the shooting, charging him with aggravated battery with a firearm and other offenses.

A Cook County judge set bail at $450,000 for Bryan.

Authorities said Thursday the case was ongoing, and the charges may be upgraded after Bryan's death.
