ANDERSONVILLE — The Andersonville Arts Weekend is back for year 11 with an array of parties, performances and exhibitions aimed at celebrating local artists.

Jessica Hammer, head of marketing and member services at the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, said the event provides "a way to capture the artistic spirit of the community."

More than 80 local artists are participating in Andersonville Arts Weekend through Sunday. The event includes self-guided art walks, live painting demonstrations, a pub crawl around the neighborhood, live music, comedy and theater, and discounts at various stores.

It all kicks off Friday with "A Night of 100 Parties." More than 30 Andersonville businesses are hosting gallery receptions Friday evening where work by local artists will be on display.

"Andersonville Arts Weekend is one of our businesses' favorite events for a couple of different reasons," Hammer said. "Obviously it's a good weekend for them because it attracts a lot of people to the neighborhood.

"We also have an incredible artistic community in Andersonville that you wouldn't necessarily see the rest of the year," she added.

Hammer mentioned custom framing store Four Sided as an example. The store is putting on a group art show that will feature works by employees.

"You may go in there and shop all year but not realize what a great artist the person who does your framing is," Hammer said.

Fans of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show," will have "lots of opportunities to see it," this weekend, Hammer said. PH Comedy Club is doing to live performances of the cult classic Friday and Saturday. And a pub crawl led by Quest Theatre that starts at The Call will also end at the bar — with a showing of the film version of "Rocky Horror."

The Swedish American Museum is getting in on the artsy fun, with a weekend of events that include exhibitions showing paintings by Swedish artist Michael Söderlundh and a "trunk show," where people can buy Swedish products not easily found in the United States.

Admission to the museum will be free all weekend.
