CHICAGO — A man in his 70s was taken in to custody after a woman, also in her 70s, was stabbed to death in Edgewater Wednesday, police said.
"Today was a tragedy," said Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) Wednesday night about the neighborhood's first homicide of the year.
Police were called to an apartment in the 1300 block of West Thorndale Avenue about 12:10 p.m. for a well-being check, said Officer Jose Estrada, police spokesman.
Inside, officers discovered the dead woman, who had several stab wounds on her body. Also inside the apartment was the man, who was taken into custody, Estrada said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office had not released the identity of the woman as of Friday morning.
The incident is believed to be domestic-related. Police had not yet charged the suspect.
Osterman said the man might have "mental health issues" and also may have been involved in another crime in the area.
